The US Supreme Court has once again rendered signal service to the greedy assholes that are raping the country. Media monstrosities like Disney can breathe a little easier today knowing that the public domain is being systematically exterminated, and the public good be damned. Copyrights have been extended past any reasonable term, keeping tens of thousands of works created since the 1920s out of the public domain, which in the world of corporate bottom lines translates to “we’re not going to publish it, but neither will you.” Vast amounts of information are being deep-sixed, all because Donald Duck was about to go public.

Someone needs to remind our bought-and-paid-for courts that they exist to keep the little guy from being crushed by the big guy. They are supposed to shield us from the iron boot, not help lace it up.

I fear for this nation’s future. The two institutions we rely on to protect us from the depredations of powerful interests, the press and the courts, have both apparently decided it’s far more profitable to abdicate their responsibility. History, if anything resembling objective history survives this abominable and illegal administration, will judge them harshly.
